Meet Our Founder

Michael brings a wealth of experience as founder of the Black Health Exchange, shaped by a distinguished career in consultancy focused on social and economic inclusion for Black communities.

Having worked across local, regional and national government, he’s designed and delivered community-led programmes always with a focus on strengthening Black communities’ voices and ensuring they are meaningfully considered in decision making.

His early role as Director of a social research company first exposed him to health inequalities. This understanding deepened through later evaluations of health inclusion projects, equality impact assessments and work supporting health institutions to improve engagement in some of the most deprived neighbourhoods nationally.

More recently, Michael’s work with the Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care System reinforced his conviction that lived experience must shape healthcare. From ensuring Black women’s voices informed the BUMP Ready? pre-conception programme, to leading the innovative Brothers Helping Brothers walking football tournament engaging Black men in on-site health checks, he’s seen what’s possible when systems work differently with communities.

Inspired by the depth of talent within Black communities — and the passion of organisations that continue to serve even after funding ends — Michael established the Black Health Exchange to harness talent, commitment and expertise and channel it into collective action.

He believes meaningful change requires collective action, built on connection and driven by care.
